Right now, I feel a little weird. I feel a little overwhelmed as I write this. I’ve just arrived home from a large, 3-day conference - a gathering of young believers seeking impact the world and know God better.
This conference is always a little strange for me. It’s fury of people, lamenting, praising, thinking, imagining, self-sleep-depriving, understanding, and communing with God. For many of my friends, it’s a spiritual high-point that causes them to seriously re-think their whole lives. It’s wild and powerful. It’s adrenaline inducing. After it ends I always leave with something new to think about.
But this year, no new personal revelation seemed to come. There was no re-direct, no about-face. Not for me anyway. This year, I found myself thinking more and more about a lot of the same things that I’ve been thinking about for years.
I want to share at least two of those things with you.
Friends, there are two things in which I believe in whole-heartedly and are irrevocable from the center of my heart.
The God I serve is the sum of greatness and grandeur beyond human measurement.
Art is a force by which human beings attempt to convey the truth and beauty of ideas.
…and these change everything.
The first belief is a truth of unparalleled significance. A cherished and deeply felt notion. The second is a tool and an opportunity that moves lockstep with the magnitude of the first: we as people can utter the glory of God through sound, light, and shape.
When we attempt to make art that can adequately describe God, I believe the earth can be fractured beneath us.
This year, something I’m moving towards the confluence of these two ideas, and if this strikes you as significant, I think you are too.
This site, is called Spiritfilm. It’s just a name, really. A combination of words that has been sitting and stirring in my head.
This site is dedicated first and foremost to the dedicated. To those who believe in an infinitely great God, and want to try to describe him: to create new films, songs, graphics, paintings, drawings, services, messages, music, images or whatever else they can wring out of their hands and hearts to express that.
This is for anyone who understands their work as a process of imparting the experience of knowing God in the wild and unexpected, and to shake the hearts of men.
There’s very much to do in 2018, Films that need to be composed. Art that needs to be made. And if you feel met in the above description, I would consider it a highest privilege of mine to encourage you, to urge you on, and to share in this work with you
To share thoughts my with you about art and to hear yours. To make art with you and to glorify a name higher than any other name.
